Hi there, I'm Johanna! I am a New York based actress, singer, choreographer, and teaching artist. Originally from Taunton, Massachusetts, I moved to New York to attend NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where I just recently received my BFA in Drama (Acting), with minors in Music and Dance. While at NYU, I studied at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, where I learned to engage my creative imagination in all my artistic pursuits, ranging from the plays of Shakespeare, Chekhov, Tennessee Williams, and Euripides to contemporary playwrights and new works. I also had the great opportunity to study the art of on-camera acting in depth at the Stonestreet Studio, from audition technique, casting, character development, and creating your own content.
I've also had many opportunities to share my knowledge and love of the arts with young people all across Southeastern Massachusetts. I've worked at Applause Academy, a children's theatre company in Massachusetts, for over 6 years, where I first learned my love of teaching. Ranging from choreographing and music directing their productions to acting as their primary theater administrator, I love using the arts as a vehicle to build self-esteem and confidence in adolescents, all while developing their technique. I've also taught music and directed choruses in middle schools, and coached high school students preparing for their college auditions.
My focus as an artist and a producer is to create female-driven works, and give opportunities to women to reclaim our artistic agency. I want to inspire audiences to see the world with hope, and make art that is accessible to the masses, regardless of their socio-economic background. In my free time (which there really isn't much of these days), I love writing for my health/fitness blog Jo on the Go, listening to my vinyl Hair OBC album nonstop, eating el fresco, nerding out about anything related to the Latin language, and drinking Dirty Chai.
